A day in the life of a community mobilizer in Dhusmareeb

Dahabo is a dedicated community mobilizer residing in Dusmareb district of Galmudug State. A familiar face in the village known for her empathy and steady commitment to improving the well-being of families around her. When she’s not at Wahar Adde MCH, she’s in the villages, overseeing the health conditions of children and mothers.   

“Every day, I observe the impact of accessible healthcare and nutrition in the lives of the families and the community. While working, individuals ask me questions about the services at the center. They also seek guidance on their personal health needs. I never get tired of sharing informative and supportive responses that empower community members to make informed decisions and access free health care services. As a community mobilizer, I closely work with health center staff and groups like elders and mothers within the community to facilitate positive change and address health and nutrition issues.”

Her work comes with significant challenges. One major issue Dahabo faces is the difficulty young girls, who are victims of early marriage, have in accessing essential health care services.

“These girls often struggle to connect with health centers due to various barriers including harmful social norms and limited awareness of their reproductive health rights,”

A day in the Despite this, CISPs Nutrition program provides vital support such that Dahabo and the health team at Wahar Adde can make a tangible difference in the lives of mothers, children and the community in Dusmareb, one consultation at a time.
