“The distribution of these dry foods has had a great impact on the school. The enrolment has changed greatly, and those who were already in school got encouragement to stay in school. The distribution of take-home food rations has also had a positive impact on teachers’ performance in the classes. As the number of learners increases the teachers are more motivated. These distributions are also helpful to parents as they are coinciding with the severe droughts where most parents cannot afford to buy their daily staple foods. These dry food rations have come at the best and most appropriate time when the school and community needed them the most,” shared Ali Abdullahi Diririe, headteacher of Alma’mun Primary school in Marergur 28km northeast of Dhusamareb.
Dry food distribution encourages displaced students and the most feeble communities to attend classes and helps them concentrate on their studies. The dry and take-home food rations bring children back to school and keep them there. School feeding is an important motivator for vulnerable families to send and retain their children in school.
This feeding programme is funded by SHF Somalia and implemented by CISP in Galgadud region, Galmudug, Somalia.
