Fartun Mohamed Abdille, 36, is a single mother of 6 and lives in Dayac IDP camp in Abduwaq District in the central Galgadud region in the Galmudug State of Somalia. Fartun and her children were displaced from Lasa'ano Village in the west of Ethiopia and relocated to Hayan IDP Camp. She has been living in the IDP camp for 4 years.
Fartun took a tailoring course from Colaad TVET Centre in Abudwaq supported by CISP's SETS program. She is the breadwinner of her family. Fartun has a small shop in the camp where she manages her family's livelihood. She learned primary school but dropped out when she got married.
"This opportunity helped me find myself and see the potential I really have. After I completed the tailoring course, I started sewing at home for my children and other people too. I have confidence in myself now. I also manage to pay school fees for 4 of my children who are now going to school, because of my efforts. What I have learned from Colaad not only changed my life for the better, but that of my family too," said Fartun.
Colaad TVET Centre is the only Public TVET Centre in Galmudug. The center was funded by the European Union and implemented by CISP in Galmudug under the SETS- Strengthening Education and Training in Somalia - project.
Fartun completed her course and believes she has gained skills that encourage her to create a business at the camp. After graduation, she was given a certificate and start-up tool as part of the project. She dreams of becoming a successful tailor in her village in Abudwaq.
