Mogadishu Cultural Festival: Promoting Cultural Heritage

The two-day Mogadishu Cultural Festival was organized by SOMASA and Awjama Cultural Center with the support of CISP, at the Somali National Theatre. The theme of the festival was "Dialogue: sharing our stories and building hope." The aim of the event was to empower youth talent and creativity through traditional Somali cultural heritage. The event included Somali traditional artifacts exhibition, traditional folklore dances, and panel discussions on Somali culture and tradition for the youth to learn about their heritage.

The cultural event was attended by female leaders from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Energy and Water, women-led organizations from Benadir Region, youth handcraft artisans, traditional dancers, and drummers.

 

"I am so pleased to attend this wonderful event. Culture is the backbone of the Somali people. These days it seems that culture is dying so the revival of such cultural events is really important, this helps in reminding the young generation about our culture. Thanks to SOMASA, Awjama, and ArtXchange for organizing this event," shared Ugbaad Abdi, a Poet, and Writer who attended the event.

"The cultural festival opened people's eyes on how we can do more about the cultural industry sector in Somalia," added Fardowsa Jama, Executive Director of the Awjaama Omar Cultural Center.
