Health and Nutrition
Many children with acute malnutrition are still diagnosed too late, significantly increasing their mortality risk. The Mother led MUAC training organized by CISP in partnership with UNICEF, was held from 21st to 24th April 2019, at Shibis Health Centre in Mogadishu. The objective of the mother led-MUAC training was to train 450 mothers from Shibis district on MUAC measurement and teach them how to screen under-five children and make early malnutrition diagnosis and refer to the health centre.
“I gained a lot of knowledge and learned how to screen my own children and detect the early signs of malnutrition, thanks to CISP” . Said Salado Ibrahim, a mother who had a nine months old child.
“We were taught easy ways of understanding malnutrition. If you measure Red twice, your child has severe malnutrition and he can quickly become ill. You should go to the health centre within 48 hours,” Added Salado. “At yellow colour, your child may have moderate malnutrition. You should go to the MAM treatment program within one week” . A mother said.
