The 12th session of the parents' group dialogue under the WW2 ProgramFostering Change: Parents' Dialogue in Mogadishu Tackles Harmful Social Norms recently took place in Mogadishu, bringing together parents, educators, and community leaders to address harmful social norms relate to gender based violence and violence against children. This initiative fosters open discussions about the impact of these norms on children and women, encouraging participants to take proactive steps toward change.

"Parents are the primary role models for their kids. It's crucial that we challenge these harmful norms in our own behavior and conversations," said Faduma Barow, the Community Discussion Leader, during the opening session.

Participants engaged in small group discussions, sharing personal stories and practical strategies for creating healthier environments at home and in the community.

"It was eye-opening to hear how many of us face similar challenges," remarked Hindiya, a mother of two. "We need to support each other and hold ourselves accountable."

The session also offered valuable resources to help parents educate themselves and their children. "Knowledge is power," said Fatima, a member of the dialogue group. "By equipping our families with the right tools, we can empower the next generation to think critically about the world around them. The participants learned a lot and are now open to speaking out against harmful norms. We plan to hold more sessions to sustain this dialogue and build a stronger, supportive community."

As the dialogue concluded, attendees expressed enthusiasm for continuing these discussions. These sessions are a crucial step toward addressing deeply rooted norms that are harmful for the community and toward empowering them to create safer environment for boys and girls.
