CISP under the European Union-funded SETS II project trained 58 participants (26 females) from nine SETS-supported schools across Galmudug on psycho-social support and well-being for children. The training, which was conducted over four days, was officially opened by the Director General of Galmudug MoECHE Mr. Alibashir Elmi Hussein who thanked CISP for the timing of the training, and participants from each school supported in attendance.
"I encourage participants to implement the school-level psycho-social support led by the male and female mentors through the boys and girls leadership networks. I also truly applaud participants from outside Galkacyo, specifically Howlwadhaag Primary and Secondary School in Abudwak, and Hobyo Primary and Secondary School in Hobyo for the sustainable initiatives that ensured school enrolment reached the highest in Galmudug over a short period. CISP, continue to work with the Ministry to improve the level of education in this region," shared Mr. Hussein.
The training, whose objective was to institutionalize psychosocial support at the school level, targeted head teachers, female mentors, CECs, district and regional education officers, and a boys/girls leadership network in the Galmudug state of Somalia. Other key objectives included; ensuring effective school management, establishing guidance and counseling centers/ offices in respective schools to ensure care is given at various levels, and ensuring an action plan is developed by the end of the training that includes training of other teachers and leadership networks.
“What we have learned on child well-being will help us understand and identify children with psychosocial needs in our schools. They need to gain psycho-social support, and the teacher should understand the social-emotional learning needed,” said Leyla Abdulle Gorod, a female teacher at General Aideed model secondary school in Gelinsoor town.
