CISP held a training on psychological support, school safety, inclusion and protection for teachers, and Community Education Committees (CECs) from schools supported by the EU-funded SETS II Project.
The objective of the training was to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in psychosocial support and life skills. This will enable them to effectively address the emotional and psychological needs of students.
Additionally, the training aimed to prepare participants with knowledge on child rights and violence against students. It also covered how to identify children experiencing abuse and facilitate their access to help through a teacher-mentor or school protection focal point.
Over 30 participants from different schools and TVET centres in Mogadishu attended the workshop, to gain knowledge and skills to provide emotional support, and fostering resilience among students.
"Teachers are often the first line of support for students facing emotional and psychological challenges," stated Mr. Farah, CISP’s Senior Education Officer. "This training empowers them to effectively respond to those needs and contribute to the overall well-being of their students." He added.
The Participants expressed appreciation for the training, underlining its relevance in today's educational sites. "We often encounter students who are struggling, but we may not always know how to help," said Sumayo, a female teacher from Bondhere Orphans school.
"This training has provided us with valuable tools to better support our students." Says Mohamed Muhidin Arab, head teacher from Abdiaziz Primary School.
The SETS II Project funded by the European Union is aimed to enhance educational opportunities and improve the quality of education in Somalia.
As the training concluded, participants were encouraged to implement the skills learned in their schools and share their knowledge with colleagues.
